The Climate Leadership Certificate provides the training and experience needed for students to apply a variety of skills to critical work in climate action and justice, as well as other vital areas of sustainability, including social justice, economic vitality, and well-being. Throughout the one-and-a-half year program, students engage in curriculum targeted at sustainability literacy, planning, and leadership, while also participating in hands-on practicum work with a variety of sustainability organizations in Whatcom County and the Methow Valley.

My dream job would be getting to consult or write policy finding solutions to problems related to climate change. This would involve working with communities, legislatures, organizations, and others to try and improve peoples’ lives in regard to environmental issues. I could see myself being content doing this at any level of government, but as I believe that renewable energy presents the field where the most strides can be made, I could see myself working at a company or as part of the government trying to implement energy sources into communities.

I'm really looking forward to getting to know a whole cohort of great people, as well as the advisors, practicum workers, the community, and just about everyone! I’m also excited to gain practical understanding and work experience through my practicum, and hopefully leave the position better than I found it. With an understanding of the work, I’d like to know if a career in the field is appealing and viable. Lastly, I’m interested in becoming a better leader—gaining confidence in myself while also identifying what can be improved. From there, I can hopefully work towards being not just a better leader but person.
