United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an urgent call for action by all countries, developed and developing, in a global partnership. The seventeen goals recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must align with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth, all while tackling climate change and working to preserve the planet’s oceans and forests.

Western Washington University utilizes the United Nations SDGs alongside its Sustainable Action Plan as a guide on its pathway to becoming more sustainable. This manifests in many facets of the university’s work including incorporation into the learning outcomes of courses throughout Western’s nine colleges and guiding requirements of programs such as the Sustainability, Equity, & Justice Fund Grant Program.
