The Climate Leadership Certificate provides the training and experience needed for students to apply a variety of skills to critical work in climate action and justice, as well as other vital areas of sustainability, including social justice, economic vitality, and well-being. Throughout the one-and-a-half year program, students engage in curriculum targeted at sustainability literacy, planning, and leadership, while also participating in hands-on practicum work with a variety of sustainability organizations in Whatcom County and the Methow Valley.

My dream job would be working as a sustainability consultant/manager for a company or organization. I am torn between working with a rural local community organization or working in a concentrated urban environment for a large corporation. Whichever environment I end up choosing, I intend to integrate environmental responsibility and ethical business practices to help companies (whether large or small) transition to a more sustainable and environmentally just future. No matter which path I take, I hope to end my career working on a climate committee board or local government while raising sheep on a small farm property, maybe in New Zealand.

I am looking forward to gaining hands-on experience through the summer practicum where I can apply the things I’ve learned in my classes. This program will allow me to network and make meaningful connections with individuals who work in the field that I intend to pursue. Learning in small cohorts fosters a sense of community and collaboration that can be hard to find in college. I am excited to get to know the other program members and grow as a team over the next two years.
