The Sprout Stop: Free Produce

Amount Awarded: $5,000.00

Academic Year: 2023-2024

Implementation: Spring 2024

The Sprout Stop was a continuation of a project implemented the previous year, aimed at providing students with fresh local produce for free. This project occurred during Earth Week in April 2024 and consisted of three days of passing out produce to students in need. Produce was sourced from local distributors, partnering with the Puget Sound Food Hub.

The team, consisting of students from the Students for Climate Action club, wanted to find a way to provide immediate food aid to students experiencing food insecurity, while also increasing their awareness of available resources, and educating them about the concept of food justice. The student team designed a zine that was full of resources to pass out to students, focusing on both educating the student body about climate activism, and decreasing the stigma often associated with taking advantage of food-based aid.
