Spring Natural Tie-Dye Event

Spring Natural Tie-Dye Event

Amount Awarded: $772.49

Academic Year: 2023-2024

Implementation: Spring 2024

This event aimed to give students and community members creative ideas for using their leftover food scraps, rather than just throwing them away. The goal was ultimately to bring awareness to the issue of food waste, and to get the Western community not only thinking about the issue but engaged in solutions to addressing the issue in their personal lives.

The student leading this project partnered with the WHOLE pantry to collect food scraps that would have otherwise been thrown out or composted. The food scraps were turned into natural dyes, which were then used to dye fabrics donated by Ragfinery, a local non-profit retail store dedicated to educating the community about textile waste and creative reuse. This event was ultimately cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances; however, the materials were passed on to student clubs in hopes that the project may continue in the future.
