Campus Sustainability Planning Studio (CSPS)
We propose to reduce Western’s carbon footprint, while simultaneously expanding its renewable energy portfolio, cutting down on landfill waste, and also producing fertilizer, by replacing natural gas with biogas produced from a biodigester.
We propose to Western Washington University that a food assessment on campus be performed, to address the issues of food insecurity. The goal of this project is to educate students and inform campus policymakers about the role of food on campus. To bring awareness to the food system, telling the story of food access, barriers to food (geographically, culturally and economically), food and sustainability, and food waste.
Advanced Green Buildings
We propose to offer solutions to issues regarding the achievement of LEED Platinum certification forexisting campus structures and future capital projects at WWU.
Carl Cozier Sustainable Action Committie
I propose that we identify a pilot school (Carl Cozier Elementary) within the Bellingham Public School District which will start implementing sustainable practices as well as work on the assessment of current sustainability efforts using the Protostar rating system.
Big Kitchen Design in BPS
We propose to incorporate sustainable thinking into every step of development for the new central kitchen for the Bellingham Public Schools.
