American Planning Association Washington Chapter 2023 Conference

The Western Urban Planners Club took 16 members to the American Planning Association (APA) Washington Conference in October 2023, hosted this year in Spokane, Washington. A couple of students presented on two class projects: 1) Gooseberry Point Studio Project: students worked with the Lummi Commercial Company to propose climate resilient coast adaptation, and housing and economic development opportunities on tribal land; and 2) Bike Lanes and Roundabouts Project: a student worked with the Washington Department of Transportation about the safety of integrating bike lanes with roundabouts around Washington state. 

The goal of this project was to expose students to professional development opportunities by providing them with an opportunity to network and connect with industry professionals. Students who attended the conference then hosted a share-out after returning to WWU, talking to the campus community about all that they learned while in Spokane.
